Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge, Kuala Lumpur
Date of visit: January 2013

It was our last day in Malaysia and there was no better way to end our trip than to relax, unwind and enjoy the food at the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge, before our 12 hours flight back to Sweden.
The Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge is located within the Golden Lounge wing at the Satellite Building of Kuala Lumpur International Airport. From KLIA Departure Level, take the aerotrain to Satellite Building. Then take the capsule lift to upper level (mezzanine) where International Golden Lounge is located.
The reception area is quite big. It was about 6 in the evening when I came and it wasn't busy at all.
I love that the hallway has an ethnic touch...
Lounge Seating Area
This lounge is very spacious with lots of comfortable seats just perfect to relax before a long flight back to Sweden.
A cloakroom is located beside the reception desk in case you need to hang your coats. I love the idea that the lounge has glass windows, making it look brighter. Plus you get a great view of the runway.
The PC Corner has three computers. There is also free wifi and the username and password are given in the reception desk.
There is also the phone charger corner where you can lock your own mobile inside while it charges. You have to enter your own PIN for you to lock it so be sure it's easy to remember otherwise you won't be able to get your mobile back. There are 6 lockers available: the first two for Iphone, the middle two for Blackberry, and the last two slots for Nokia and Samsung.
In the bistro, you can find a good selection of salads, cold tapas, hot appetizers, breads and pastries. If you are craving for an ice cream, they have a fridge full of Haagen-Dazs ice cream!
I guess they are the equivalent of the "suman" and "kutsinta" that we have in the Philippines. I never got the chance to verify though because I was busy "working".
The warm buffet had three dishes: fettuccine with bolognese sauce, steamed vegetables and chicken breast with mushroom sauce... and all tasted very good.
Hot nourishing soups and freshly baked breads are located just beside the main dishes.
The bar offers a wide selection of alcoholic drinks. As usual, I didn't order anything.
Opposite the bar is a big TV screen showing a tennis match.
The toilet and shower rooms are okay. A towel, shampoo, body wash, moisturizing lotion and a toothbrush/toothpaste are available in the desk outside the shower room.
I had to wait till the cleaner has done his work because all four shower rooms have recently been used when I came. My day started with an early flight from Langkawi to Kuala Lumpur so it was definitely worth taking a quick shower to freshen up a bit.
Relax and unwind
For those who have a long lay over, a relaxation room is able to accommodate three persons with their daybeds. Kids wouldn't feel bored in case they have a long transit time with all the games and activities available at the kids room. I actually saw a boy playing Wii.
Overall, I really enjoyed an hour and a half spent at this lounge. The food was very good, the staff were very friendly and the ambience was fantastic. I would have hoped for more daybeds though since all three were occupied when I checked it. Although the lounge is really very spacious, I think accommodating passengers during the peak hours would be a problem. Having said that, I also think having just three warm dishes on the buffet wouldn't be enough during rush hours.
I thought the phone charger section was pretty cool since it was my first time to see such thing in a business class lounge. Considering all the lounges I have been to, this lounge comes in third place with Qatar Airways Business Class Lounge in the Premium Terminal in Doha as top one, and the Asiana Airlines Business Class Lounge in Incheon as second.
