The beautiful Boeing 747-400...
Since we had enough time to go to the city for some sightseeing, we decided to leave our bags at the Thai Royal Silk Lounge and head downtown. Although there were no lockers, we still felt it was safe to leave our bags in the lounge.
My boarding card... Boarding was supposed to start at 11:40pm but eventually it started at 12midnight.
The business class cabins are located on the main deck and the upper deck. Our seats were located on the upper deck witha a 2-2 configuration.
My seat 12J was a window, located on the right side of the cabin.
Although the seat was not a fully flat bed, I actually slept very well.
The seat control with massage function...
I found this bin very helpful since I was able to keep my personal things all in one place.
The Porsche Design amenity kit consisted of a brush/comb, a slumber shade, earplugs, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a small bottle of Colgate mouthwash, Bogner lip balm, Bogner energizing body lotion and comfort socks.
The predeparture drinks: I had a glass of fresh orange juice while Mike had a glass of Piper Heidsick Brut Champagne. At the same time, hot towels and newspapers were also offered. I was surprised to see the copy of the Vision Mag to be outdated as they still were using the April issue when it was already June.
The first serving started with the drinks..I had a glass of apple juice while Mike had his usual gin and tonic...
The appetizer actually tasted great. Unfortunately, I lost the copy of the first servings menu and I don't remember what I had either so I hope you forgive me for this negligence.
The main course...
Assorted cheese, fresh fruits and crackers...
And lastly, the dessert! Everything from the appetizer to the dessert tasted excellent. After the first serving, I decided to watch some films and then decided to sleep, as it was an evening flight. In between the first and second servings and upon request, there is instant noodle soup with Chinese roast pork and garnitures.
About one and a half hour before landing, the second serving started. I ordered a glass of apple juice for me and orange juice for Mike...
After the drinks came a plate of fresh fruits and yoghurt...
Potato and Leek Omelet, Pan-fried Veal Chipolata, Sauteed Mixed Vegetables
The other choices for the main course were Pancake stuffed with Scrambled egg, Pan-fried Pork Sausage, Roesti Potatoes, Baked Tomato with Olive Oil and Herbs and Cold Cut Platter (Biershinken, Butcher Ham, Salami, Gruyere Cheese).
I have to say the food tasted really good.
The personal screen is really not as big as the ones being offered by other airlines...
The entertainment controls and the headphones...
Toilet and Lavatory
Just love the Aigner skin care products provided in the lavatory.
Arrival in Rome
Rome is one of my favorite cities and that day, we got lucky to have a wonderful weather thus making our sightseeing tour very productive.
Thai Airways always deliver very good service and excellent food on board. I've flown with them a lot of times now and I guess they are really taking care of their customers, altho not as good as the cabin attendants from Asiana, ANA and Singapore Airlines.
The fact that our boarding was 20 minutes late was kind of expected as it wasn't the first time it happened. I thought the outdated inflight magazine was not a good sign either and that the size of the personal screen was pretty small compared to other airlines offering. On the other hand, the food was great and the flight attendants were very friendly and helpful. Overall, I would give this flight an 8 out of 10.
